KINDRED

Have you ever tough of slavery and how it was oppressive to others . Many slaves resisted slavery in many ways . In the book kindred the main character is Dana a African American who travels in time to save a boy name Rufus . Octavia Butler's main message is that people should resist oppression.
Kindred showed how slaves resisted oppression . An example of resisting oppression was when the slaves talk back to their owners when they are mistreated. " Weylin Punished a field hand for the crime of answering back. Weylin order the man to stripped naked and tied to the trunk of a dead tree." (Pg.92) In this quote Weylin hits one of his slaves for resisting his orders . By showing this the author shows someone who's being oppressed and responds with resistance.
The character Dana runs away even though she knows the consequences of running away . Another example of resisting oppression is when dana tries to run away from Tom Weylin . Dana runs away because she is tired of the oppressive things Tom Weylin did . This shows how Dana resisted oppression.
In the novel , slaves ran away to get freedom so they can get married . An example is when Alice and Isaac run away to get married but they end up getting caught and Isaac and Rufus get in a fight . This show how slaves are resisting slavery by fighting their owners even tough they get punished . By showing this the author shows that slaves are not afraid of standing up form them selfs and that they are not scared of any punishment they give them .
In conclusion resisting slavery could end up hurting you but at the time you could en up being free. Slaves suffer but like Dana and Alice tried to escape at least they were capable of trying an not giving up on what they need to accomplish .
